This Key Stage mirrors the approach used in Key Stage 2 with teaching delivered to classes put together on the basis of their communication and cognitive needs.

There is some flexibility within the Key Stage with movement between classes for some pupils to meet their individual needs in specific curriculum areas but generally the classes remain with their class team, consisting of a teacher and two teaching assistants throughout the week.

The children have opportunities to mix socially at break and lunch times, in the dining hall and at a wide range of lunch time clubs.

Then there are half termly themed learning days where groups of pupils share their learning and experiences of the theme.

All the children have individual targets in the Core Curriculum areas of English, Maths and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and individually tracked targets in all other curriculum areas.
