Attendance
Children learn better when they have good attendance at school; this enables them to gain consistency in their routines and activities, and facilitates the opportunities for repetition which are so crucial when over-learning skills, as our pupils often need to do.
We encourage parents to send their children to school unless they are really ill e.g. with a very high temperature or having had sickness or diarrhoea within 48 hours.
We encourage parents to seek medical and other appointments during holiday periods and to try to book family holidays outside term time, though we are mindful of the detrimental effect busy holiday venues can have on pupils with some conditions and are considerate of this.
Our attendance rates have been improving year on year for several years and we would like to see this trend continue.
Remote Education at Ganton school
At Gaton School, we believe that in‑person attendance is vital to pupils’ learning, development, well being and progress. In accordance with Department for Education guidance, remote education is not an alternative to face‑to‑face education and is only used in limited and exceptional circumstances where a pupil is unable to attend school but is well enough to continue learning.
When Remote Education May Be Provided:
- When a pupil is temporarily unable to attend school for medical or health‑related reasons
- In exceptional individual circumstances, such as short‑term absence linked to medical, SEND or mental health needs, where it supports a planned return to school
- In the event of partial or full school closure, or where access to the school site is restricted
Remote education is always used as a short‑term, supportive measure, and forms part of a wider plan to reintegrate pupils back into school as soon as possible.
